The attack helicopter is designed for use against ground targets such as personnel, structures, and vehicles. They will carry a variety of guns, rockets, and missiles. They are valuable against tank formations and can carry air to air missiles although they are not specifically designed for air to air combat.
Personally I think that the attack helocopter is just about perfect for ground attack because it can hover and provide accurate fire on ground targets. It is extremely maneuverable which is a definite plus in its ground attack role. The wide variety of ammunition that it carries makes it useful for just about ant type of mission. Its ability to hover is what gives it a distinct advantage over ground attack airplanes.
There is a contingent of helocopter pilots ring customers in this area and the Apache pilots are very confident in the capabilities of their aircraft.
