The Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) is the highest ranking enlisted representative of the United States Navy. There are many Master Chiefs in the Navy and they are all equal in rank but the MCPON is the Master Chief that the other Master Chiefs answer to.
There is just one insignia which represents them all that we use on our Master Chief Petty Officers Rings. The MPCON would have to place his title on his ring to distinguish himself from the rest.
The MPCON serves as the enlisted representative to the Chief Naval Officer. In this capacity he serves at the pleasure of the CNO. He spends the majority of his time travelling to different units to get a direct assessment of the state of the enlisted personnel. He finds out the true (and legitimate) concerns, complaints, and recommendations of the enlisted personnel and serves as their voice at the top of the chain of command.
