What Does the Term Suppressive Fire Mean?

Posted December 23rd, 2009 by OldWarrior

suppressionSuppressive fires are when you shoot at your enemy with the intention of making him keep his head down, or hindering his ability to perform his mission of killing you.

Suppressive fire can be artillery or mortar fire, or any other type of military weapon that you may have. Of course you want to kill him first but sometimes you have to suppress him in order to get to a place where you can kill him.

One example of the use of suppressive fire is when you are trying to mess up the aim of an enemy firing a wire guided missile. If you can get artillery or some other form of fire close enough to him to cause him to flinch and miss then you have done your job. Of course if you can kill him you have done an even better job. http://www.militaryringexpress.com
