The Colonel

colonelThis rank is affectionately known as a “full bird” or “full bull” in the Army because the insignia is an eagle. The colonel is a rank of the US Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force and is the next rank over the Lieutenant Colonel.

The name derived from the latin “column” although the rank did not exist in the Roman Army. The Colonel is the highest field grade officer in the military. The next rank of General is denoted as a flag grade. Field grade officers command regimental or brigade sized units while the General Officer will command a division.

By the time an Officer makes it to the rank of Colonel he has been around for awhile and knows the ins and outs of the military. We honor the colonels who are military ring customers by having the insignia available to them. It is available as a laser vue design and looks identical to the rank shown above. We like to use every opportunity to inform you of the choices that we have for your custom military rings
