The Brigade Combat Team

Posted December 15th, 2009 by OldWarrior

bctThe Brigade Combat Team is the basic Army unit which is deployed to conduct extended combat operations. With the onset of the War on Terror the US Army had to change its concept of deploying units into combat. The threat is not army against army any more but one force on another force.

The Brigade Combat Team contains everything that it needs to conduct sustained combat operations. It has attached support units for maintenance and logistics purposes. The team can be a heavy (armor and mechanized infantry) or a light (light infantry) team depending of the area, ememy, and terrain that it will operate in. The artillery which used to be organic to the division has now been placed directly within the brigade for control and cohesion. This creates a lean and mean unit which can fight the battle without a whole lot of reorganization. We salute all of our military ring customers who are a part of a BCT. We particularily salute our friends of the 48th BCT who should be returning home soon. We have added a 48th BCT ring to our selection of military rings.
