The Pershing II was a solid fueled, 2 stage, medium range ballistic missile which was employed by the US Army in Europe during the cold war.
Although no longer in use this missile was used as a deterrent to Warsaw pact countries during the cold war. It was a theater level tactical nuclear missile which was employed by the US Army Field Artillery ring customers. All of you custom military ring customers who served during the 70′s and 80′s should be familiar with this weapon.
I was an artilleryman but my specialty was cannon artillery. Pershing missilemen would only be stationed in one of two places in the world during their era. Those places were Germany and Fort Sill Oklahoma.
During that time the expected threat of war was a Russian attack through Europe. These missiles were employed as a deterrent because they told the Russians that we would go nuclear if we had to.
