The Task Force is a military unit put together to accomplish a certain mission. As soon as the mision is over the Task Force is reconfigured. I don’t know exactly how it works for the other branches but I can speak about it is done in the Army for my US Army ring customers.
When I was a n Army Field Artillery Officer one of my jobs was the job of a Task Force fire support officer. I was responsible to the commander for control all of the Field Artillery, mortars, close air support, and naval gunfire if it was ever used. The size of the Tafk force was normally between 600 and 800 soldiers but it could vary depending on what needed to be done. Various units were assigned to the task force which also depended on what needed to be done. I was always there for every mission. Artillery was not a thing that the task force could ever do without.
The Marines have always operated in a permanent type of task force configuration. The Army just did some major reconfiguring to make it easier to opperate this way.
