The Purpose of Unconventional Warfare

Highlight for Album: cinoeyeIn unconventional warfare you are not necessarily trying to win by killing off all of your enemy or destroying all of his equipment. This can be classified as a type of warfare by attrition or by breaking you opponents will to fight or to win.

Once again let me go back to our military ring customers who are currently serving in Iraq and afghanistan. This is the type of warfare that the Taliban and al-Qaeda. they don’t have the military size or resources to slug it out with us so they are doing all that they can do to break the will of the American population. They do things which they think will take all of the starch out of us and make us have to have to give up the battle.

This is the type of warfare that defeated the Russians when they invaded Afghanistan. after they had fought for years and not made any headway the Russians saw that the attempt was not worth the cost that it would have to pay to have an assurance of victory.

I’m sure that our Army and Marine Corps ring customers have studied that conflict and come up with tactics which would preclude the same thing from happening to us.
