This news applies more to our Operation Enduring Freedom ring customers because it effects the upcoming troop deployment to Afghanistan.
President Obama is putting some serious pressure on the Afghan president to get a handle on the corruption. This is going to be a serious problem for President Karzai because corruption is rampant in the highest levels of government. It will be twice as difficult for him if his hands are dirty because his indiscretions would compromise any attempt that he has to make to stop corruption.
The government has more or less lost its credibility with the Afghan people which is dertimental to any offensive action that we can take to rid the country of terrorists.
Karzai’s opposition bowed out of the presidential race when he claimed unfair bias by pro Karzai officials would not allow another person to be elected. This is a brilliant move on his part since it puts Karzai’s claim to the presidency in doubt. Since Karzai’s opponent would not have won the election anyway he didn’t lose anyting by bowing out.
Some suggest that President Karzai should reach out and make some concessions to his opposition to unify the new government. This would probably be a good idea. It worked for President Obama when he made Senator Clinton Secretary of State.
