The Gulf War Oil Spill

Posted November 19th, 2009 by StylinSoldier

oil spillThis oil spill was the worst in history. It happened during Operation Desert Storm and every Operation Desert Storm ring customer is aware of the details.

This spill was caused by the Iraqi Army when they opened some valves at  several oil refineries, and dumped the content of several oil tankers. It was estimated that anywhere from 42 to 462 million gallons of oil were dumped into the Persian Gulf. Now get this. The spill was 101 miles long, 42 miles wide, and 5 inches deep. Thats a whole bunch of oil. When it happened I thought that Saddam hussein did it out of spite but it is believed that he ordered it to foil a perceived amphibious assault by US Marines.

1 million barrels of oil were recovered from the spill, 2 to 3 million barrels washed ashore, and an estimated 6 to 10 million barrels evaporated. Thats a whole bunch of wasted money. Fortunately the spill was gotten under control before it could do a whole lot of environmental damage. http://www.militaryringexpress.com
