The Laws of War

laws of warLaws of War are an attempt to prevent the practice of war from descending into total barbarianism.

It seems like an absurd contradiction to try to establish laws to govern the situation of war but I for one think that it is necessary. If there were not some kind of controlling influence war would very quickly degenerate into utmost barbarism. Laws of war are the thing which keeps situations like Abu Graib from being commonplace. Laws of war give us a yardstick to ascertain what is acceptable behavior.

You can look at recent history and see the results when a dictator such as Saddam Hussein has no respect for human life or any kind or morality. Look at the debauchery that took place during his regime. I know that in peacetime training the United States Army incorporates adherence to the rules of land warfare. We also strictly hold unit commanders accountable for insuring that their units are trained on the laws of land warfare. http://www.militaryringexpress.com
