Force Multiplication refers to the military tactic of combining resources to give an exponentially greater advantage. It will boost the power of a small force to that of a much larger force.
A good example of this is my Special Forces military ring customers. Their job normally is to go into an area and motivate, train, and equip the locals to fight. So you take a small Special Forces team and give them a while. They will turn the locals into an Army which greatly multiplies their numerical value. Do you remenber when Turkey denied the use of their land and air space to us during Operation Iraqi Freedom. When they did this General Franks couldn’t use the 4th Infantry Division to attack from the North as he had planned. His solution was to use Special Forces in the region to train the indigenous Kurds to attack. It worked out for him as the Special Forces troops were able to put the attack together with the Kurds executing it. This was much more effective for the small number of troops which we had in the area.
Other things that can be used as force multipliers are; obstacles, weather, terrain, weapons of mass destruction, smart bombs, and stealth weapons. Each one of these can greatly increase the effects of a relatively small force.
