The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment was formed to provide helicopter suppert for general purpose and special operations units. The need for such a unit was recognized after the failure of operation Eagle Claw in 1980.

This unit consists of the best aviation soldiers in the US Army. Those of you who are aviation ring customers of mine know just how hard the training is to be a part of this unit. Officers and enlisted members alike have to go through a very rigoruos training period to be active in this regiment.

You can see the name “Night Stalkers” on the unit crest because they conduct most of their operations at night. This unit has pioneered many new tactics for aviation operations.

Check this out. The helicopters that this unit uses are AH-6 Little birds, MH-42 Chinooks, and MH-60 Blackhawks. Now you will ask me what is there to check out? And I will tell you that I didn’t include it there because I wanted to save it for impact. The word MODIFIED was used to describe the helicopters. Thats a mouthfull. It says everything without saying a lot.
