US Forces in Iraq may be required in the near future to be deployed to some trouble spots in that country. This will be a response to a spike in violence which has occurred since our troops have been pulled back out of these areas. This response may not be required but if it does it will be to assist the Iraqi police and Armed Forces in putting down the violence.
This redeployment (if it happens) would probably start out as more of a show of force. Its purpose would probably be to make the troublemakers think twice before they start any trouble. It would also give Iraqi forces some added confidence when they see that their help is at hand.
I am surprised that there does not seem to have been a need for our forces to intervene before now. This says a lot about the dedication and abilities of the new Iraqi armed forces and their new government.
I certainly hope for all of our sakes and especially for the sake of our soldiers that the Iraqis can continue to maintain the peace in their country.
Our Operation Iraqi Freedom soldiers have certainly done their job and more. We have even sold custom military rings to Operation Iraqi Freedom goverment officials.
