US Forces in Afghanistan Help Prepare For The Upcoming Election

The Afghan Presidential election is scheduled to take place in a few days and US and Allied forces are assisting the Afghan Army and Police Force as much as possible in preparation. Afghan police teams have been deployed to troubled areas in Kandahar province to help to maintain order at different polling places. Keep in mind that Kandahar is the birthplace of the Taliban and there is a strong Taliban presence there.
The Taliban have threatened citizens and attempt as much as they possibly can to intimidate them into not voting.
The US and NATO will stand ready to assist the Afghan forces but will maintain as low a profile as possible. There have already been offensives launched in order to drive the Taliban out of populated areas so that they will not have a hand in the election. Now the focus is on defensive operations in order to keep as low a profile as possible.
This is another example of the fine work that our military is accomplishing during Operation Enduring Freedom. The Afghan people should be proud of the sacrifices that US and Nato servicemen and women are making to insure that they will have the right to vote in this upcoming election. Those who have had a hand in this historic event can use their Operation Enduring Freedom Ring to tell the story of their place in history.
