This is the name of the latest US military push in South Eastern Afghanistan. United States Marines are conducting this offensive in order to force the Taliban out of populated areas before the upcoming Presidential elections.
US Marines in the town of Dahaneh are running into very heavy resistance from the Taliban but are continuing to apply the pressure and take over the area. This town is in the area which is a Taliban stronghold and has been so for many years. This operation will open up the door for the citizens of the region to be able to vote freely in the upcoming election without intimidation or coercion by the Taliban.
If you think about this you will see how admirable it is that our soldiers are giving their lives for the Afghan people. I certainly hope that those who are benefitting from these great sacrifices appreciate them.
Another benefit of this operation is that our forces have captured 66 pounds of opium because this area is the major route for drug smuggling in this area. It seems like one major benefit of Operation Enduring Freedom is that it will put a serious dent in drug trade. I for one certainly hope that it does.
Operation Enduring Freedom will be remembered for this reason and others for a long time to come. The Operation Enduring Freedom military ring will be used by many of those who were a part to remember those times for years to come.
