US and Afghan Forces Are Destroying Record Numbers of Drugs

Posted July 30th, 2009 by StylinSoldier

poppiesUS Marines, British Soldiers, and Afghan Forces have recently destroyed hundreds of tons of poppy seeds, opium, and heroin in Helmand, and Kandahar Provinces in southern Afghanistan. Since the Taliban uses proceeds from drug sales to fund their war efforts in the region friendly forces have also confiscated military supplies to include bomb making materials, AK-47′s, and RPG’s.

This seems to be a good benefit of the War on Terror in that most of the heroin consumed in the United States comes from that region. Hopefully confiscating the drugs and weapons will help to starve the Taliban out og their war efforts. Maybe this should be more of a strategy than trying to ferret out and kill individual Talilban members. I’m sure that our military will find the right combination punch to deliver and end the war quickly.

The US has changed its drug interdiction policies in the area to go after drug warehouses rather than the poppy fields of the individual farmer. Thats what I call hitting where it hurts the most. Hopefully Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom will soon be distant memories and the only pictures that we will have of them will be on custom military rings.
