The AEGIS ABM Weapon System

aegis cruiserThe AEGIS Combat System refers more to a network of operations than it does to a specific weapon. It can be one ship utilizing the AEGIS Anti-Ballistic missile, or a network of ships operating in concert to get the job done. This anti ballistic missile system is used by our Navy, but there are other variations which other Navies use also. The sailor who is designing his or her own custom US Navy ring has many resources available to commemorate their working with this system although I couldn’t find an actual picture of the missile to show you.

This system is one of the most capable ABM systems in use is the modest statement given in research articles. I know that this was the system which was recently utilized to knock an errant spy satellite out of the sky.

Now you may ask me why is that such a big deal? My answer to you in this matter dear grasshopper is this: The satellite was travelling at a much greater rate of speed than any Ballistic Missile ever does. Now add this to the equation; the satellite was tumbling through space as its orbit deterioated and had to be hit on its fuel tank for the kill to be a righteous one. Well one missile was all that it took to take down the errant satellite. This gives me the utmost confidence in our Navy and their equipment.
