Did You Know About Operation Southern Watch?

operation southern watchOperation Southern Watch was primarily an Air Force operation conducted following Operation Desert Storm with the mission of controlling the airspace south of the 32nd parallel in Iraq. It had to be extended later to the 33rd parallel.

The reason for this operation was to spank Saddam for not adhering to the terms of the Desert Storm cease fire. Provisions of that treaty were put in place to prevent him from bombing the Shi’ite Muslim population in Southern Iraq, but Saddam being himself couldn’t obey the rules. This operation had to remain ongoing even until the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

There was much more involvement in this operation than the general public is aware of. This operation consisted of air to ground action as well as air to air action. The Iraqi Air Force would push the envelope by flying across the No Fly Zone and darting back across before they could be engaged, needless to say this didn’t always work out.

There were times that Iraqi ground forces would show signs of aggression and have to be soundly spanked also. Saddam refused to remove many of his ground based radars and missiles from the area. They also had to be dealt with.

There is so much that the public never hears of but we who have affiliated with the military know the deal. This is where the creation of our custom military ring comes into play. Creating your custom ring will help you to tell the story of your time in service to the world.
