The XM-25 Counter Defilade Target Engagement System which has been in the developmental stages for quite awhile will finally be deployed to Afghanistan this year. We have done several posts about this weapons system in the past and it will certainly do much to help out our Infantry Ring customers who are having to fight the Taliban and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. This weapon is probably the greatest thing that our military ring troops can have to assist them when they are fighting in urban areas. The weapon fires a 25mm round which is deadly accurate and can be adjusted to perform differently in different situations. It can be set for a delayed function which will allow it to penetrate walls of buildings or whatever structure that the enemy happens to be hiding behind and detonate inside where the enemy is hiding. It will also be able to detonate at predetermined heights in order to reach out and touch those combatants who are in deep defilade.
The advent of this weapon system will certainly give our Operation Enduring Freedon ring soldiers a great technological advantage and as far as I’m concerned it is the best technological weapon system developed so far for military operations in urban terrain. The army would like to issue one per squad to infantry units. This will enable the infantry squad to make fairly quick work of a group of combatants who are holed up in a building, in a ditch, or behind a wall. These are the tactics that insurgents typically use against our forces.
I believe that if we had been able to get this new technology into the hands of our military ring customers much sooner we certainly would have been able to save some lives of our soldiers.
