Man this is some nasty news which has surfaced from Afghanistan. I generally try not to write negative stuff about our military ring customers but there are always some who make it bad for everybody.
The story is that as a result of the trial of the American troops accused of killing innocent civilians another sore spot has turned up. The new problem is that there are many photographs floating around of Americans posing with corpses. Some with just pictures of them and body parts. Now thats nasty. I think that it would be an accurate assesment to say that it’s time for these troops to come on home. I think that they have been over there long enough, don’t you agree?
The thing is that the sight of a dead body is hideous to us who are not used to seeing them each day. The soldier in a combat zone who sees these bodies becomes accustomed to it and even gets somewhat comfortable with it.
I am not making excuses for this but I think that those who are comfortable posing with dead bodies are due for a change in their working environment. Those who have committed any atrocities should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, but I think that the posers should be made to undergo readjustment counseling.
Troops who are in combat zones will always take pictures to show the people back home what they witnessed on a daily basis, and it is not perverted to take a picture with bodies in it just to show where you were, but anything more than that requires immediate psychological attention. I don’t know what bearing that such pictures would have in the case of the soldiers on trial but some type of investigation into this matter is warranted.
