Their warheads, speed, guidance control systems etc. may vary based on the operational requirements of a particular mission.

Cruise missiles are extremely accurate and expensive so they are used on high priority targets where extreme accuracy and effects are desired. These missiles are extremely expensive so they are not necessarily used for all targets which may be encountered. Cruise missiles are normally fired from ships and/or aircraft.
