Should the Koran be Publicly Burned

Posted September 7th, 2010 by OldWarrior

This will be a touchy subject but it is all over the news so I feel like it would be appropriate to address it here. No matter what I say someone will not agree or like it but thats OK. The event that brings this on is the announced plan of the Dove World Outreach Center of Gainesville Florida to pubicly burn Qurans on September 11th. Before I talk about the burning of the Qurans let me say this: I don’t agree with any religion which advocates killing innocent people to support the cause or which forces people to join by giving them a choice of joining or death. I don’t think that God would tell you to blow up yourself to kill other people. That sounds like hell to me.

On the other hand I don’t know what burining Qurans would prove to anybody or what in the world would be the purpose. I don’t believe that whatever voice that Pastor heard telling him to do so was God.

The mere talk of burning the Qurans has started widespread protests and riots in Several different Muslim countries around the world. If the deed is carried out it will put our troops and many innocent civilians in danger by causing widespread terrorist violence against them. Our military ring customers are fighting hard in Iraq and Afghanistan and we don’t need to give terrorists any added incentive to kill.

God hates all evil no matter where it comes from. We should not cowtow to terrorists by any means at any time but at the same time we should be wise about the way that we conduct business. Our job as Christians is to win people to Christ. No we don’t condone evil but at the same time we must draw people through love. There are many out there who would come to Christ if we concentrated more on sharing the truth of his word with them than performing meaningless religious acts. I just don’t believe that burning Qurans for a show is a way to reach out for souls.
