The latest rumor is that there are Chinese troops in Pakistan. Whether this is true or not I have no clue but the Chinese are strongly denying it.
The rational for Chinese toops being there is that they are building a railroad through Pakistan that will give them access to the Persian Gulf. This makes good tactical sense but if it is true there really is no reason for them to deny it. This is no more or less than any other country would attempt to do if it were in China’s position. Supposedly the troops are in the Gilgit area of Pakistan and supposedly there are 11,000 of them there. I don’t know.
The Chinese and the Pakistanis are allies but if I were Pakistan I would keep in mind that China’s main purpose for anything is to secure territory and resources for its gigantic population. They need huge amounts of natural resources for their huge population and its large indistrial base. They also need natural resources to keep their huge military growing, fed, and hungry.
China is the big dog in the region and it never hurts to be aligned with the big dog for your own protection. You have to keep in mind the temperament of the big dog that you are running with my military ring customers. Will he remain loyal to you or will he decide that you would be an interesting twist to add to his lunch.
