General Petraeus has announced that he won’t change the action plan for securing Afghanistan. I’m sure that he will make some minor changes as anyone else would but the basic plan will be the same. The plan has to be revised because of the difficulty that our custom military ring customers faced in the offensive on Marjah.

General Petraeus was one of the planners of the operation so he has a vested interest in its success. He was instrumental in coming up with the change of strategy in the war in Iraq so his track record is excellent. He is familiar with the terrain and the people who inhabit it.

President Hamid Karzai was obviously concerned about the way that the operation will be conducted because he sees some positive results in terms of the political winning of the hearts and minds of the civilian population.

General Petraeus will probably make some adjustments right off the bat just ot get things operating the way that he needs for them to be.

The pressure is certainly on the Obama administration to end the war speedily because he has promised the American public a quick end to the war in Afghanistan. General Petraeus is probably the one man who can get the job done.
