Our President’s Surprise Visit to Afghanistan

Posted March 29th, 2010 by StylinSoldier

obama and karzaiPresident Obama made a surprise night visit to Afghanistan last week to talk to President Hamid Karza, General Stanley McChrystal, Ambassador Karl Elkenberry, and many of our Operation Enduring Freedom military ring customers.

The important thing in this phase of the troop surge is to win the hearts and minds of the Afghan people. Do you see how President Karzai has that I just got my butt kicked look on his face? Do you see that I just kicked somebodies butt look on President Obama’s face?

Our president had to speak in person with Karzai about curbing the opium trade and his dealings with Afghan warlords. The government of Afghanistan is perceived to be corrupt which is not a good thing for the troop surge. If Afghan civilians are disgruntled with the government it will be difficult to obtain their cooperation to keep the Taliban out of captured territory. Especially after we leave. This is a critical point in the troop surge and our military ring customers will be greatly effected by public perception of the Afghan population.
