The military which wins is the one that stays on top of technology thus giving its troops every possible advantage in battle. It also trains its troops to a level of proficiency which no other military force can match. The United States military has certainly done this and normally is the creator of every piece of new technology that we hear about.
They haven’t dissappointed with the latest which is a bullet that directs itself like a tiny guided missile and can hit a target more than a mile away. Can you imagine the advantages that this would give our troops in battle? Can you also imagine the effect that this would have on military tactics in any future conflict?
The bullet can twist and turn to guide itself toward a laser-directed point, all while making up to 30 corrections per second. It’s packed with electronics that control electromagnetic actuators that steer the bullet’s tiny fins. These bullets are being designed as 50 caliber machine gun rounds which ade the largest bullets fired from a hand held rifle or machine gun.
The bullet has been in development for three years and is still in the testing phase but it seems that its debut is inevitable. The bullet can reach speeds of 2,400 feet per second without special gunpowder or modifications. Computer simulations showed an unguided bullet under real world conditions could miss a target more than a half mile away by nearly 10 yards. But according to the patent, a guided bullet would get within eight inches. Can you imagine the huge impact that this round will have on the modern battlefielf. The 50 caliber round is designed to be used against equipment so this accuracy will significantly increase its hit and kill ratio.
I don’t know when our military ring customers in the field will receive this new bullet but I am anxiously watching and waiting. I will keep you informed.
