The strategy for dealing with terrorists in Yemen is to go easy and keep a low profile. The reasons for this are manifold but the biggest is that we don’t to be seen as a nation which is seeking to dominate the world. In addition we don’t want to give any ammunition to the perpetrators of propaganda against this country. There is already a lot of propaganda coming from various sources inside of Yemen about an attempted US occupation of the country and we certainly don’t want to add fuel to the fire.
We know that al-Qaeda has been using this country as a safe haven but the Yemeni government has been doing an outstanding job at fighting terrorism within its borders. We have been suppling them with intelligence and resources to fight terrorism which serves to keep our involvement low key. It also helps the Yemenis to save face among their fellow Arab countries.
We will most likely adopt this policy with other nations where terrorism seeks to raise its head. In addition to helping us to save face it keeps the lives of our military ring troops out of harms way.
