The Pakistanis Condemn a NATO Intelligence Report

Posted February 7th, 2012 by OldWarrior

Pakistan on Wednesday hit out angrily at a leaked NATO report accusing its spies of secretly aiding the Afghan Taliban, saying that pre-dawn air strikes killed at least 20 local Taliban fighters.

The Pakistanis may be angry at this report but I believe it to be true. I believe that they have been openly aiding al-Qaeda for the duration of the war and I believe that they have actually assisted them in combat. When we look at the recent incident where NATO whacked a bunch of Pakistani troops recently I have to conclude that some of the firing at NATO forces was coming from the direction of the Pakistani troops.

Either the Pakistanis were engaging the NATO forces or they were allowing the Taliban to do so under their protection. If they had been on their job at all they never would have allowed the Taliban to get that close to them. If it was the Taliban that attacked the NATO forces the Pakistanis had to know. My question is if they knew why didn’t they do something? It simply is not possible that they were oblivious to what was going on that day.

The leaked NATO document claims that Pakistan’s ISI intelligence agency is intimately involved with the insurgency and that the Taliban assume victory is inevitable once Western troops leave in 2014. One big question that I have is this; Why is it that the US has killed so many high ranking terrorists in Pakistan? How is it that we live on the other side of the world and we can find and kill so many high value terrorist targets in Pakistan and the Pakistanis themselves don’t know that they are there? They are well aware of who resides within their borders. They are also well aware of where they are living.

The BBC said the report was based on material from 27,000 interrogations of more than 4,000 captured Taliban and Al-Qaeda operatives.

Taliban captives said Islamabad was using a web of intermediaries and spies to provide strategic advice to the Taliban on fighting US and NATO troops. I believe that this is the very reason why our custom military ring customers have had to fight there for so long. I believe that if the Taliban were not getting help from the Pakistanis we would have been able to permanently eject them from Afghanistan quite a while ago.
