This is another one of those military operations that you might hear about but don’t ever really know anything about. I can tell you what I read but it doesn’t honestly give any information.
This was the first time that NATO mobilized in the defense of one of its fellow members. It bagan in Oct 2001 as a result of the bombing of the world trade center on Sep 11th of that year. There is obviously much more to this than meets the eye but we probably won’t ever know the full scope and truth of this operation. I even doubt if there are many military ring members that know many of the answers.
In this operation NATO AWACs from 13 different member nations flew over 4,300 hours of mission time over the skies of the United States. The operation ended in May of 2002 when the US felt that it had done whatever was needed to enhance its protective posture against terrorists attacks.
