lady justiceThe Uniformed Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) is the foundation of military law. Military Law is necessary because the military is a unique organization which operates in circumstances that are definitely not normal during wartime. Hence the need for the UCMJ.

It applies to all branches of the Uniformed Services of the United States. The USCG comes under UCMJ when it is put under the control of the US Navy during wartime, and NOAA and PHS come under UCMJ when they are attached to a military unit or militarized by the president.

The UCMJ began as the 101 Articles of War in 1806 and was made the UCMJ in 1951. http://www.militaryringexpress.com
