US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has finally publicly warned that we should be wary of the Chinese military buildup. Now if you have been following this blog you will remember that I have been warning about the Chinese for quite a while. and I agree I am not even that smart and I had sense enough to know, so what does Mr Gates do for all of the big dollars that he makes. Heck I could have told him that a long time ago without the high level board meetings and briefings. As a matter of fact I could have saved him a bunch of time and trouble.
According to Mr Gates (and I agree) we can’t ignore their recent technological developments in missile, space, and cyber warfare. US officials say that they don’t know the reason for the buildup which puzzles me. Since they don’t know the deal they need to let the military ring man drop some knowledge on them. The reason that the Chinese are spending so much money on military technology is so they will be able to kick our butts one day in the future. The fact that they are spending so much tells me that they mean business. The fact that they have been concealing their intentions by telling us that the offensive weapons that they are building are really defensive tells me that their intentions are definitely not good.
I certainly hope that M Gates has at least figured out some of this before now. If he hasn’t we are in deep kimchi folks. Now is not the time to cut our defense budget. We need to develop counter strategies to the weapons that they are building and the technology that they are creating. We then need to produce weapons that will make those strategies work.
