Texas reservist SPC David Hutchinson has joined the ranks of only a very few Army reserve soldiers who have been awarded the silver star medal. This award is a result of SPC Hutchinsons actions when his convoy came under attack while participating in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
While on a convoy with his home unit (the 420th Engineer Brigade) SPC Hutchinson and his unit came under a severe insurgent attack. His actions as a gunner are credited with killing a number of insurgents and saving the lives of many of his fellow soldiers.
SPC Hutchinson became a target of the insurgents because of the hurting that he was putting on them with his MK-19 grenade launcher. This was confirmed by the large amount of bullet holes in the turret of his vehicle. SPC Hutchinson was eventually severely wounded by RPG fire, but even though wounded and knocked off of his vehicle he continued to assist other wounded soldiers. He is currently back in Texas where he is working on his civilian job and recovering from his wounds.
This is the reason for the Operation Enduring Freedom Ring. This is the exactly the kind of story that you can use a military ring to tell. Every time you or your loved one see the ring it will remind you of your time in service. It is also a reminder to those who have never served in the military of the sacrifices that you have made for your country.
