For some strange reason an Iraqi soldier or at least a man dressed as an Iraqi soldier opened fire on a group of American soldiers guarding a US Commander which resulted in two of them being killed. Now when I attempt to analyze the event in my tactical military mind I see two different scerarios that might be the cause of the incident.
In the first scenario my military ring customers, the assailant was an al-Qaeda operative who managed to slip in among the Iraqi soldiers which is entirely possible when I look back over the accounts of lapses of security that I have heard about in Iraq among their security forces. Supposedly an arguement broke out before the shooting and the soldier fired in anger which could have been a ruse but I don’t think so. If he was in fact an al-Qaeda operative he would not have needed a ruse to start shooting. He had already infiltrated the area so all that he had to do was to raise his rifle and shoot. In this scenario a ruse would have been senseless. Generally al-Qaeda likes some flair and flamboynce when they conduct an operation. They would have had more shooters and some bombers to make more of a scene and hopefully kill a lot of people to make their point. They would have made sure that the world knew that it was them.
In the second scenario the perpetrator actually was a disgruntled Iraqi soldier and the arguement was real. Maybe he was fed up with the world and the Americans were in it. I tend to believe this one because it fits. I may be wrong but this is what I think on this one. We will find out whether I’m right or wrong in the near future but I believe that I read this one right.
