The Korean War Veterans Memorial is located in Potomic Park, in Washington DC. The memorial was dedicated on July 27th 1995. It contains three major sections. The first section contains 19 stainless steel statues which represent each branch of the United States Armed Forces. The statues are placed in an order which represents soldiers on patrol.
The United Nations Wall is another section of the memorial. This wall lists each of the 22 member nations of the UN who supported the war effort.
The third part of the memorial is the pool of rembrance which is a 30 foot granite lined pool dedicated to all of the casualties of the war.
I really like the spirit of the memorial and its design. I get a glimpse of the artists concept when I consider the way that he designed this memorial. If you have never been to war it is hard to understand the sacrifice of our veterans and the horrors and emotions of war. My father was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War who served his country proudly and I am proud of him. We can use many techniques to create a memorial of past events and a custom military ring is only one of many ways to memoralize the actions of our loved ones who have served our great country.
