When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just another example of empire building by George Bush.
He answered by saying, “Over the years, The United States has sent many of its men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we ever asked for was enough to bury those that did not return.”
A true leader will not let you denigrate those that serve under him or those who he serves under. Thank you General Powell for setting the record straight.
Colin L Powell is a former 4 Star General and was the 65th Secretary of State, and first African American to serve in that position. General Powell also served as National Security Advisor, Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces Command, and as the Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Gulf War. I had the pleasure of serving under General Powell during Operation Desert Storm and I am thankful for the positive leadership of our superiors during that time. I am also grateful for the Operation Desert Storm Commemorative Ring and the other awards which we received for our service.
