This lie is a pretty good one but I don’t think that it tops Sgt Spivey’s great Vietnam lie. SFC Bryson is a Viet
nam Veteran who I had the pleasure of working with for a while when I was in the Army. I know that you want to hear the lie so here it goes.
Pvt Bryson (at that time) was an infantry soldier during the Vietnam War. This young soldier (says) that he was with his unit which was about to be overrun with NVA regulars during the TET offensive. Pvt Bryson was the M60 machine gunner for his platoon. He declares that the M60 can do a whole lot more than the Army says that it can (keep this in consideration but don’t bet your life on it). Pvt Bryson says that he was so scared that he continuously fired the machine gun (no bursts) until the battle was over. The amazing thing about this piece of equipment is that the barrel turned white hot and you could see the bullets going thru it (according to Bryson).
The reason that I don’t believe this one is this; If you are so scared that your finger freezes on the trigger when do you find time to check out the bullets and marvel at the fact that you can see them through the barrel. This is one lie that you can’t even put on a military ring.
