For those of you who don’t know “Atomic Annie was the name given to the first nuclear capable US Army Field Artillery cannon. This cannon fired the first and only round ever fired by a Field Artillery Cannon in May 1953. Now my question to all of you out there is this; Why has the Army fired only one nuclear Artillery shell in all these years? You don’t have to answer out loud, just think about it.
It seems to me that if an Artillery crew has to ever fire a nuclear round in combat a whole lot of people are in deep kim chee. Especially the crew. This howitzer was soon phased out because the Army figured out how to use the cannons already in inventory to fire nukes.
