The Tet Offensive

tet offensiveThe Tet offensive was conducted in 1968 by Viet Cong and NVA forces against the Republic of Viet Nam during the Viet Nam War. These operations began on the 1st day of the Vietnamese new year (Tet). Enemy forces conducted this operation after both sides had announced a 2 day cease fire in honor of the New Year. These attacks caught allied forces totally by surprise partly because they did not believe that the North Vietnamese could mount an offensive operation of any significant size and partly because of the holiday.

This operation consisted of multiple simultaneous attacks in various locations and was very well planned and coordinated. The offensive was conducted in phases that lasted well into September. The offensive proved to be disasterous for the North Vietnamese for many reasons but was successful in creating anti war sentiment in the US.

There are still many Viet Nam veterans around who may have memories of this particular operation. You can use the tools that we provide to create a custom Viet Nam military ring.
