Operstion desert Storm was probably the last war of an era. I believe that this war marked the place which was the beginning of a shift in military tactics, technology, and doctrine which will describe future wars.
We learned that we could depend on advanced technology to do the job that raw manpower used to do. We also learned that technology alone won’t win a war. There is no substitute for men on the ground.
Operatrion Desert Storm was a glorious victory for our forces. We desrtoyed most of the military equipment of the Iraqi military and virtually wiped out their manpower. The US didn’t acknowledge the total number of Iraqi killed and injured because if they had it would have caused a furor among the Arab Nations and would have been severely detrimental to our relations with our Arab allies.
One thing that our government learned was that it was not expedient for the military portion of the operation to attempt to establish a huge coalition of troops. It was politically correct but it severely hindered military operations.
