What is the USCGC Eagle?

USCGC Eagle under sailThe US Coast Guard Cutter named Eagle serves as a training Cutter for Coast Guard Academy cadets, and Officer Candidate Students. She is normally used for training during the summer months, but serves other goodwill purposes as well. She has a standing crew of six officers and 56 enlisted. When she is on a training mission she may carry 12 officers, 68 crewmen, and up to 150 cadets.

This ship is an impressive vessel with a range of 5,140 nautical miles. She has a 1,000 hp auxilary diesel engine. The propeller shaft can be disconnected to allow the propeller to spin freely when she is under sail. This cuts down on propeller drag.

I would love to sail on this vessel but that probably won’t ever happen. It would be good to be able to observe the training that cadets undergo while aboard this vessel. We have never had the opportunity to create a custom coast guard ring for anyone who has trained aboard this ship, but it would be a wonderful challenge and experience. We challenge you to come up with an idea that we can’t put into design.
