The Definition of a Military Commemorative Ring

September 28, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

rings-photos-014.jpgThe very best thing that we can do before we begin to explain about the purpose of the Military Commemorative ring is to define what it means to commemorate. We commemorate a person, place, or event when we want to honor the memory of the person, place or event.

Normally those of us who are in or have been the military will join in a commemorative event when we are awarded medals, and ribbons, pins, special uniform items, belt buckles, and plaques among many other things.

Many of our custom military ring customers have created their rings to commemorate campaigns such as the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm and so on. They have also commemorated places such as Fort Irwin, or Fallujah. Many will create a custom military ring to commemorate their retirement, or graduation from a military school. One of the mast notable tings that many of our customers are doing now is to commemorate the memories of their fallen comrades. Most have done so by inscribing the initials of their friends either on the side of the ring or inside the ring as the engraving.

SFC Jared C Monti is Awarded the Medal of Honor

September 28, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

mohSFC Jared C Monti was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor by President Obama recently. The Medal of Honor was awarded because of action which took place in Afghanistan during a firefight with about 50 insurgents. SFC Monti and his patrol were ambushed near the border of Pakistan. Isn’t it strange how so much of the action of this war is taking place near Pakistan.

SFC Monti was a member of the 10th Mountain Division’s 3rd Squadron 71st Cavalry. He was cited for walking directly into heavy enemy fire to rescue a wounded soldier. SFC Monti had called for artillery support but realized that the wounded soldier was lying in the expected impact area of the artillery. He waded into concentrated enemy fire at least three times before he was mortally wounded.

This story is a testament to our soldiers serving in Operation Enduring Freedom and elsewhere around the globe. Many of them have commemorated their time served in Afghanistan with an Operation Enduring Freedom Ring. The medal of honor seems to be completely justified in this case and our condolences go out to SFC Monti’s friends and family.

rings-photos-048.jpgThere are two different finishes available for you when you order a gold military ring.

First of all this choice is only available when you order a gold service ring. It dosen’t matter whether you order a white or yellow gold custom military ring, or whether you want your custom military ring to be 10kt, or 14kt gold. In order to make a choice you need to know why there is a choice so lets address that issue first.

The natural finish is exactly what it says. It is the shiny sparkling color of new gold. It dosen’t tarnish easily and cleans very easily also. Some customers prefer the natural finish because it is the classic look of gold. It draws more attention because of it’s luster. You can get the same personalization on any gold ring regardless of which finish that you order.

The antiqued finish is processed to have a patina or bronzed color. this finish is more popular when customers order their gold military ring because the custom designs will show up much better. Most of our customers prefer the antiqued finish when they order their military rings.

Did You Order A Basic Training Ring?

September 25, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

rings-photos-026.jpgMany military personnel opt to order a custom basic training ring once they graduate from their basic indoctrination. This is a vary special time for the serviceman or woman. Basic training can be a very tulmultuous event for the trainee. It is an experience that is so unique that many create their own custom military ring to tell the story of this event.

Since basic training is just the beginning of a long line of military experiences, most military ring customers will get another ring made sometimes later in their military service. Mnay customers will get a military ring made at the time of their retirement, or after they have completed some significant events or military schooling.

Many will get campaign rings made after they have served, for example Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom Rings.

The purpose of creating a custom military ring is to tell the story of your time in service. Each person has a unique story to tell. This is why every custom military ring that we produce is unique.

The Naval Officers Candidate School Ring

September 23, 2009 posted by StylinSoldier

rings-photos-020.jpgIf you have paid much attention to the posts that I have made on this site you are probably well aware that there are numerous ways to customize a military ring to make it tell just about any story that you want it to. The function that I want to write about today is the Naval Officers Candidate School Ring.

If you attended the Naval Officers Candidate School, or if you have been involved with it in any way you can use our rings to tell that story. There are so many ways that you can do so it is impossible for me to try to show them all. You may want to place your class number, graduation date, occupation, time of service, etc on the ring at one place or another. You could put them all if you so desire.

The Naval Officers Candidate school is a 12 week course which trains civilians and enlisted men alike to be Officers in the US Navy. It is located at Naval Station Newport Rhode Island. Once the candidate graduates he or she is comissioned an ensign (01) in the US Navy.

The Military Recruiters Ring

September 23, 2009 posted by StylinSoldier

rings-photos-017.jpgThe Military Recruiter is probably one of the hardest working persons in the military. His or her job is strictly based on numbers so the good recruiter is the one which signs up the most soldiers. The recruiter is put under intense pressure to get people into the military. They average recruiter probably puts in more hours than most soldiers in some of the militarys most high speed units.

The recruiter knows shortage areas in the service and he or she knows the bonuses which are offered to enlist in certain occupational specialties.

All recruiters are given a Recruiter’s Ring by their command during their tour of duty there but we have done rings for some recruiters who have lost theirs. We do offer the recruiters emblem as a side panel design so we can capture the essence of the job on our rings. You can choose from seven different metal types to make your ring. Many will use celestrium, or valadium in lieu of gold. they definitely have the look and luster of gold at less than half the price.

Who Exactly is The MCPON?

September 22, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

John Whittet.jpgThe Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) is the highest ranking enlisted representative of the United States Navy. There are many Master Chiefs in the Navy and they are all equal in rank but the MCPON is the Master Chief that the other Master Chiefs answer to.

There is just one insignia which represents them all that we use on our Master Chief Petty Officers Rings. The MPCON would have to place his title on his ring to distinguish himself from the rest.

The MPCON serves as the enlisted representative to the Chief Naval Officer. In this capacity he serves at the pleasure of the CNO. He spends the majority of his time travelling to different units to get a direct assessment of the state of the enlisted personnel. He finds out the true (and legitimate) concerns, complaints, and recommendations of the enlisted personnel and serves as their voice at the top of the chain of command.

USMC Involvement in Somalia

September 22, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

Baidoa 1992 Somalia.jpgThe operation that this post refers to is Operation Restore Hope which was conducted in the southern part of Somalia from December 1992 to May 1993.

This operation began with the intention of enforcing UN resolution 794 which sought to restore order to the country which was (and still is) in a state of turmoil. The Somali govenment has lost control of the country. Different areas were controlled by whichever warlord happened to be the strongest in that area. There is little hope for the general population of that country. This operation sought to help the civilian population by enforcing the safe distribution of foods and supplies to them. The problem was that the warlords were taking the supplies which were intended for the civilian population.

The marines who participated in this exercise were a part of a UN Task Force. Even though this operation started well it detoriated into the mess that we saw chronicled on the movie “BlackHawk Down.” Take it from the custom military ring man, if our objectives had been just a little bit different in that area at that time I believe tat the outcome would have been much more positive.

Are We Losing Our Air Power Edge?

September 22, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

U.S. Air Dominance ErodingAccording to Air Force Lt General David Deptula yes we are. I was reading an article which reported some of the reasons that he cites for this evaluation but I am inclined to disagree with him. I don’t know what he knows so maybe the only thing that I have going for me is emotion but his statements seemed to be vague.

He cites the improving technologies of some of our potential advesaries but I am quick to interject that their technology is always seeking to catch up with ours. We are always on the cutting edge of technology so unless we lapse into another dark ages I don’t see that happening.

He cites improvements in their radar technology, better surface to air missiles, ability to copy our newest technology, mass production and export, and use of cyber warfare to mess with our space technology. Every business is always seeking to improve. We are always looking to do better with the choices that we give in our Air Force rings, Aviation rings, Navy Pilots rings, and all of the other designs that we produce. So does our military attempt to do with its technology to maintain our dominance of the skies. I believe that we will always be one step ahead of the competition.

Iraqi Shoethrower Has Been Released From Prison

September 22, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

shoe throwerDo you remember the Iraqi reporter who threw his shoes at then President Bush? He was recently released after serving nine months in prison and if you were to ask me and any one of us at the  Operation Iraqi Freedom Ring place we all have the same opinion which is that nine months is not enough time for the scumbag.

Muntadhar al-Zeidi now claims that he fears for his life because US Intelligence services want him dead. My motto to this story grasshopper is this; “Before you throw shoe at President you should think about consequences.” I guess now he needs to learn how to work on his escape and evasion skills to bring them up to the level of his shoe throwing skills.

Mr al-Zeidi claims that he was severly tortured while he was in prison. He says that he was beaten with iron rods, shocked, whipped, and splashed with cold water and then left out in the cold. I bet that cold water was a real head rush!

As you can see there is not a whole lot of sympathy for him here, but before we leave you let us leave you this little tidbit. Mr al-Zeidi was supposed to serve 1 year in prison but was released after 9 months for good behavior. Now maybe this is just a figment of my pea brained imagination but let me ask you this. If you enjoyed torturing the crap out of someone would you let them go home early and miss out on 3 months of fun?
