Lets Set The Record Straight Again

February 26, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

unThere was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break, one of the French engineers came back into the room saying “Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intend to do, bomb them?”

A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: “Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed three thousand people three meals a day; they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day; and they can carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships, how many does France have?”

The moral of this story is that military personnel can do more than destroy stuff. Our modern military is multifaceted and the world should recognize that by now. Many military personnel and even those who are not on active duty will wear a military service ring to display their affiliation.

The Role of The Special Operations Soldier

February 26, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

Image:USASOC.patch.jpgAll regular duty soldiers hold the Special Operations soldier in high regard and have much respect. The Spec Ops soldier is a different breed. He will not gripe when he has to endure unexpected hardships because he knows that that is part of his job. This soldier has something that the regular soldier may or may not have. We wonder if we can endure the limits that the special operations soldier is pushed to on a daily basis. Any good soldier will always wonder if he has what it takes to be special ops.

All services are represented in our custom design work. As an ex soldier I can appreciate the value of Special Operations soldiers. I understand the stress that you endure each and every day. I want to make sure that you are represented wherever and whenever you have served. I thank you for your faithful service. You can recognize this soldier when he is not in uniform by looking at his finger at his special operations ring.

Just to Set The Record Straight

battleshipA US Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of Officers that included personnel from most of those countries.

Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French Admiral suddenly complained that, Whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, “Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather then speaking French?”

Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied, “Maybe its because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies, and Americans arranged it so that you wouldn’t have to speak German.

Thank you Admiral for setting the record straight. We do not give our heroes the credit that they deserve for their service. We commemorate events with medals, ribbons, awards, military commemorative rings, and such, but sometimes we need to show appreciation by our actions.

What is The Role of Military Intelligence?

February 25, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

us soldiersMilitary Intelligence is the most valuable asset that the maneuver commander can have. Intelligence gives the commander an analysis of many different factors which effect the battlefield. The intelligence officer or enlisted person must have superior analytical abilities. The intelligence soldier looks at a wide variety of factors and combines it with what he or she knows about the habits and tactics of the enemy to give an analysis of the situation and provide the commander with a recommended course of action.

The interrogator is another person of great intrest. The good interrogator must be adept at analyzing the information that he or she is given to know how to interrogate the prisoner. I once talked to an interrogator who told me that he would remove his military ring before he interrogated a prisoner because the prisoners would observe the custom designs on the ring as a source of information about the person interrogating him.

The History of The Hospital Ship

February 24, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

hospital shipHospital ships are normally operated by military forces and are used primarily near war zones to treat wounded soldiers.

The first hospital ship was the HMS Victory which became a hospital ship in December 1798. The USS Red Rover treated wounded soldiers from both sides during the US Civil War.

Modern hospital ships display large red crosses to show that they are protected from hostile fire under the Geneva Convention.

Hospital ships are crucial to our present efforts in the Persian Gulf. The personnel who serve on these ships are often overlooked and forgotten, but this is your tribute. If you have any other topic that you feel we should cover on this blog or if you have new ideas for a military service ring feel free to contact us at any time.

Thank You General Colin L Powell

Colin PowellWhen in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just another example of empire building by George Bush.

He answered by saying, “Over the years, The United States has sent many of its men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we ever asked for was enough to bury those that did not return.”

A true leader will not let you denigrate those that serve under him or those who he serves under. Thank you General Powell for setting the record straight.

Colin L Powell is a former 4 Star General and was the 65th Secretary of State, and first African American to serve in that position. General Powell also served as National Security Advisor, Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces Command, and as the Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Gulf War. I had the pleasure of serving under General Powell during Operation Desert Storm and I am thankful for the positive leadership of our superiors during that time. I am also grateful for the Operation Desert Storm Commemorative Ring and the other awards which we received for our service.

Way To Go Robert Whiting!!

normandy invasionRobert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 82, after arriving in France had to take a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on bag. “You have been to France before Monsieur?” the customs officer asked sarcastically.

Mr Whiting admitted that he had been to France one time previously. “Then you should know enough to have your passport ready.” answered the customs officer. To this Mr Whiting informed the official that he didn’t have to show a passport on his previous visit. To this he official answered “Impossible, Americans always have to show their passport on arrival in France!”

The American gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained, “Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn’t find a single Frenchman to show a passport to!

This is another classic example of a distinguished Old Warrior who should be honored for his service and respected for the hardships that he had to endure to guarantee the freedom of others. We are always more than happy to meet and greet these distinguished warriors when they come in to inquire about our service rings.

Who Was Brigadier General Benjamin O Davis Sr?

File:BG Benjamin Oliver Davis Sr. 201 File Photo.jpgBenjamin O Davis Sr was the first African American General in the US Army. He entered service on July 13 1898 as a temporary First Lieutenant with the 8th US Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted as a Private after he was mustered out if the Army in the 9th Cavalry Regiment as a Buffalo Soldier. He was commissioned as a second Lieutenant in 1901.

General Davis served in the Spanish American War and WWII. General Davis deserves to be remembered for his accomplishments during his time of service and his momentus achievement of becoming this nations first African American General during a turbulent time in race relations in this country. We have noted from our experiences that there are very few oil warriors left from this era in time. We have met a few, and its always good to swap lines with them. It is also always a challenge to us when we help them design their Military Service Rings.

Take A Look At This And Be Proud

This is a widely known story but I just wanted to put it out today. I read it the other day and want to share it with you. There are a few of those soldiers still around. We have sold a few service rings to these Old Warriors and we love to hear their stories.

The Role of The Aircraft Carrier

February 19, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

USS NimitzThe Aircraft Carrier is so crucial to most aspects of naval operations that it is referred to as the cornerstone of the US Navy. The carrier is a formidible force because it can project so much heavy duty air power so quickly and decisively anywhere in the world. The carrier is our enemys worst dream. When it gets there its like having Freddy Kruger stuck to your head with super glue. Whenever there is a crises situation anywhere in the world the nearest carrier group is dispatched to hold it down until other forces can arrive.

Each carrier is deployed with a host of other support vessels to form a carrier battle group. When you put the fire power in perspective that the battle group brings into play you have a serious force to contend with. Many of our customers who have served in the US Navy have come up with all kinds of unique ways to show the carrier that they served on by creating a Custom Navy Ring. I am always amazed at how they come up with different ways to create their rings.
