Operation Moshtarak has Began

US, Afghans Sweep Taliban StrongholdThis operation is centered around the town of Marjah in Afghanistan is the beginning of the NATO offensive to retake Afghanistan and to restore order. This operation includes American troops, Afghan soldiers, and NATO troops.

So far there have been no coalition casualties but about 20 insurgents have been killed and 11 have been captured. The Taliban seems to be retreating into the city for the most part but allied forces have met some stiff resistance and as far as I know resistance is continuing in several areas.

The biggest problem that our military ring customers have been facing is an extensive network of mines and booby traps that the retreating Taliban has left behind. The traps have made progress slow and deliberate but have caused no casualties so far.

The Taliban has known to expect the attack for a while so they have had plenty of time to set up traps and to shore up their defense of the city.

The control of Marjah is critical because the city has been a hub for many of the Taliban’s activities to include logistics and the drug trade. We wish all of our custom military ring customers well who are involved with this attack.
