Russia has sent its own team of experts to South Korea to do their own investigation of the sinking of the Cheonan and should be concluding their investigation as I write this post. I am curious as to how their findings will effect the attitudes of the Chinese and the North Koreans since they are all allies.

If the Russians findings concur with those of the international investigation team China and North Korea will be hard pressed to continue to straddle the line and look the other way. North Korea will probably maintain their hard line denial to the bitter end regardless of what anyone finds. When you commit yourself to a lie you just have to stick to it.

The interesting thing will be whatever Russia decides will have a tremendous impact on the outcome of this situation. I believe that if they disagree with the findings China and especially North Korea will follow suit. If they agree with the findings of the investigation they Chinese will probably grudgingly agree and the North Koreans will continue to show their real colors. This is the official take of the military ring man on this one. Lets watch and see if I’m right or wrong.

The new US National Security Plan focuses more on preventing homegrown acts of terror rather than attempting to eradicate terror worldwide. I have talked about this very issue in previous posts and I have expounded on many of the factors that I believe that this new directive also takes into account.

First of all if we believe that we can eliminate worldwide terror then we are living in a pipe dream. We will never eradicate terror or terrorists worldwide. If we continue to try to do so I believe that all that we will do is to continue to spread ill will around the world.

The native citizens of the countries that we go into don’t perceive us as a saviour but as an aggressor. They don’t know why we are there and they are fed a steady stream of propaganda against us.

We will go broke if we continue to try to take on terror organizations around the world. When we go into a country we cause the terror organizations to scatter into other countries. These scattered groups gain members and support in other countries which only increases the problem.

We need to use our overburdened military to focus on keeping terror out of this country. Our border with Mexico requires immediate attention. We can also use a scaled down military force along with existing government agencies to keep an eye on domestic terror cells.

Our military ring customers will be hard pressed to continue operations the way that they are going now. We need to free them up to focus more on National Defense rather than on chasing terrorists.

The US Pressures Pakistan on Terrorism

May 31, 2010 posted by OldWarrior

The US needs for Pakistan to gain control of the terrorists who use it as a base of operations for their attacks on the United States. The latest US push comes after investigation into the failed New York bombing attempt. We have learned that the bomber who was a US citizen was trained and financed by the Pakistan Taliban.

We narrowly dodged a bullet on this attempted times square bombing. If it had not been for the faulty construction of the bomb there would have been a large number of US casualties and a propaganda victory for the terrorists. We don't want to have to use our custom military ring customers in Pakistan, but we will if we have to. This just can’t be allowed to happen again and if we have to conduct some sort of action in Pakistan we will.

The United States is preparing plans for a possible attack on al-qaeda or Taliban extremests in Afghanistan if it becomes necessary. The reason for tis is the failed Times Square bombing in New York among other things. Times Square was really more of the straw that broke the camel’s back. There have been several terror attacks and one which was effective. In the last attempt it was determined that the attacker was trained and financed by the Taliban in Pakistan.

If the Pakistanis don’t show that they have the will to deal with this problem we will have to. The bottom line is that we can’t allow any attack which will result in the loss of America lives in this country. Any US attack would probably be surgical, coordinated, and use missiles and aircraft to take out predesignated targets. Special Operations military ring customers would probably do most of the bulk of the work.

It would probably not be an all out invasion with massive force. We have learned that there is a different mentality to fighting the worldwide war on terror.

Remember Our Troops on Memorial Day

May 29, 2010 posted by OldWarrior

The precedent which eventually morphed into the holiday which we know as memorial day began on May 5th 1868. It began as a day of honoring the Civil War dead by placing flowers on their graves. It was began by the head of the Organization of Union Veterans. A national holiday to honor those who have given their lives in the service of this country is totally appropriate. If there is never another American killed in another military conflict anywhere on this earth we still can not give enough honor those who have given all.

Almost every serviceman or woman killed in the service of this country was a young adult with a full life ahead of them. They did not have the opportunity to live and die a quiet death at an old age. they missed many warm summers, special moments with loved ones, hot home cooked meals, and warm embraces in the arms of loved ones because they gave their lives for you and me.

Those who gave their lives all gave it in some foriegn country in the most jacked up conditions that you can imagine. They were hungry, tired, fearful, and dirty. They died in the worst physical and psychological circumstances that you could possibly imagine. Many of them died while suffering the most excruciating pain that you can imagine. The last image which their eyes saw was not their loved ones and family members but the horror and carnage of combat. We honor you our military ring customers both dead and alive and we want you to know it.

A Moment of Appreciation

May 29, 2010 posted by OldWarrior

The most special times in our lives are those times when words may not even be spoken but there is a certain connection between you and someone. Now I am writing this and I bet that you are wondering what is wrong with the old warrior. I haven’t cracked my head but let the military ring man be sentimental for a moment. Let me tell you about one such time.

Back some years age when I was on the way to report to my first duty station I took a detour to Fort Hood Texas to visit a friend of mine. Since I stayed longer than I was supposed to I had to wear my uniform to report in to Fort Sill Oklahoma. I can’t remember the name of the small town where I had to stop but I went into a convenience store to grab a quick snack. There was one register open and a long line. As I stood in line waiting I began to look through a magazine. Something felt strange so I looked up. When I did I saw that all of the patrons of the store had gotten out of line to let me go first. None of them said a word as they stood there and silently waited for me to look up and go ahead.

Why was this so special you say? Well grasshopper this young black man from the deep South never expected that kind of reaction from the white residents in a small rural Texas town. God bless America.

Coast Guard Leadership Changes Hands

May 29, 2010 posted by OldWarrior

I don’t know much about the Coast Guard but I want to try to share some information that I saw today during my reading time. The news is that it is time for the leadership of our Coast Guard to change hands. I will try to relay what I read to you without messing it up too much.

Admiral Robert J Papp Jr will soon take over the helm of this venerable organization shortly. The Admiral has had over fourteen years of sea duty during his decades of service.

His first goal is to bring stability and predictability to the Coast Guard in lieu of all of the recent organizational changes to it and all of the other armed services. The flavor that I get from his comment is that he wants the organization to get back to business as usual while integrating recent developments into it’s overall operations.

We salute the new leader of the US Coast Guard and all of the Coast Guard ring customers who serve in this organization. Many of us are not aware of sll of the things that this organization is responsible for. They do much more than help stranded boaters. When I do the research to write posts for this site I come across many stories of Coast Guard rescues, and assistance.

If you are keeping up with the news about Korea you will know that things are seriously heating up right about now. Personally I think that the sinking of the Cheonan was about the biggest bonehead move that North Korea could have ever made.

Both sides have ramped up the rhetoric lately. South Korea has cut all diplomatic and economic ties with North Korea. It has also stopped allowing North Korean commercial ships to sail through its waters.

North Korea has responded in kind saying that it will not allow South Korean ships or aircraft to use its sea or air space. In addition they have expelled South Korean diplomats from the Kaesong Industrial Park.

Now let me drop some knowledge on you who may or may not be my military ring customers who have not served in Korea. North Korea may be the aggressor but don’t be fooled into thinking that the South Koreans are a pushover. They will clean your clock son. An attack by anyone on South Korea would not be a piece of cake. South Korean soldiers are just as tough as the North Koreans but the North Koreans are more brutal. I have had the priviledge of seeing both sides. Our military ring customers serving in the Second Infantry Division are just as tough as any soldiers anywhere in the US Army. US and South Korean soldiers would certainly repel a North Korean invasion.

I have posted many articles on the ongoing Chinese military buildup and now the intentions of the Chinese are becoming clearer to the United States and the rest of the world community. Thier latest Naval doctrine is called “The Far Sea Defense.” Doesn’t that name sound like a crock of bull? What in the heck could a far sea defense be? Especially since they already have a wide variety of long range weapons in their arsenal. I’ll call it the “Full of BS” defense.

Now China will argue that they have the right to protect their interests around the world and this is true, but that isn’t all that the Chinese have in mind. They are also planning to deploy a carrier group in the near future. Definitely not a defensive tool.

We need to remember that the Chinese government does not have a problem demonstrating its aggressiveness towards us, and has done so on many occasions. They definitely won’t have a problem being pushy when they know that they have the forces to back it up.

We need to make certain that we maintain the tactical and technical edge on the Chinese in every military aspect. This is not the time to sleep on the job. We need to insure that we provide our custom Navy ring customers with every technological advantage that we possibly can.

US Takes the Lead in the Cheonan Incident

May 24, 2010 posted by OldWarrior

The US has performed what seems to be a brilliant piece of diplomatic strategy in the case of the Cheonan sinking by North Korea. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has taken the lead is pursuing additional punishment against North Korea. She by doing so has of pushed South Korea to the backburner but she has changed the tone of the incident.

She has changed it from being a North vs South Korea deal into a North Korea vs the world situation. This effectively brings the entire world to bear on North Korea which should be a more intimidating threat to the president of that country. In addition, with world cooperation there is more of a chance that whatever is done will have a greater impact on the North Koreans. China is a major cog in the wheel and its actions will have a profound effect on whatever actions are taken. The Chinese and North Koreans are allies and for this cause the Chinese have remained neutral.

I guarantee you that our custom military ring customers who are stationed on the Korean penninsula are on full alert at this time. It would be a serious mistake for the North Korean government to try to escalate the situation. I don’t know if they realize that or not. It seems as if they don’t but then again they may just know how to talk up a good game.
