Step 12 to Creating Your Custom Military Ring

December 11, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

rings-photos-017.jpgThe next step in creating your custom military ring is to select your preferred laser vur design. We will probably have to go in and make some changes in our site on this one but the preferred laser vue is the design that you would like to have on your ring.

The reason that this prompt appears is that we have pages of laser vue designs listed on the site that we don’t necessarily list on the order page by name. We can’t list them all because there are hundreds of them. We have set those that we can’t list at the top of the page. You click on the preferred laser vue line and it will open up to show you all of the extra designs.

You can click through them and choose whichever one that you like. Once you do so just type in the name of the design in the perferred laser vue space.

If you get to the point where you get stuck just give us a call at 912-877-4734. We will be more than happy to help you design your custom military ring.

The Precision Guided Munition

December 3, 2009 posted by StylinSoldier

prec munitionPrecision guided munitions are a recent technological advent which takes warfare to a whole new level.

Precision guided munitions (PGM’s) may be smart bombs and missiles, GBU’s (guided bomb units) etc. The definition of a PGM is a guided weapon which is capable of hitting a specific target with minimal damage to objects or people who happen to be close to the target. In other words we have taken weapons which were once known as area weapons and turned them into point weapons. They don’t just land close to the target and get effects by massive explosions, they get results with direct hits.

You Custom military ring customers from the Operation Desert Storm era may remember the advent of the smart bomb in that war. You military ring customers from Operation Iraqi Freedon know that smart bombs were very widely used at that time. During Desert Storm 10% of the bombs dropped were smart bombs while about 90% were smart bombs during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

One major advantage of guided bombs and missiles is that you get more results with fewer munitions. If you are using bombers to drop bombs you send fewer bombers and their crews into harms way.

The Saddam Channel Airs in Iraq

He's Baaack! Saddam Channel on Iraqi TVWell this is for all of you Desert Storm ring customers and the rest of you custom military ring customers who had to deal with Saddam Hussein in one form or another. The Saddam channel airs throughout the Middle East just for you.

No one really knows who funds this channel or where it is aired from but Mohammed Jarboua who resides in Damascus Syria claims to be the chairman. He is not telling what he knows so we may never know the truth. Jarboua claims that it is aired in Europe but there are all kinds of rumors out there.

I just see it as a weak form of anti US propaganda which is probably not going to have the desired effect on the Iraqi population although sentiments seem to be split along party lines. The Sunni sect may tolerate the program since this was Saddam’s sect, and the Shiites are more or less opposed to it.

Honoring American KIA’s

November 28, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

kiaI’m sure that you all have heard of this term, and you probably know what it means, but I would just like to do this post in honor of our KIA’s. I know that some of my military ring customers are in this category because we have dealt with so many different customers, especially those who purchased US Army rings from us.

The definition of a KIA (killed in action) is a soldier who is killed as the result of hostile action whether it was a firefight or some other means of death as long as it was caused by hostile enemy action.

This is a term that we don’t like to hear because it is the ultimate sacrifice that a young man or woman can give. Any time that you hear the term KIA that means that a YOUNG person has just given up the rest of their natural life on this earth for your freedom. We need to appreciate what our young servicemen give to pay for the price of our freedom.

Operation Desert Shield

Gulf War Photobox.jpgOperation Desert Shield was the international response to the Aug 1990 Iraqi invasion and annexation of Kuwait.

When the Iraqi government refused to adhere to UN sanctions a 34 nation coalition force was organized to expel the Iraqis from Kuwait. Many people wondered why we didn’t continue on to Baghdad after the war but understand that the coalition was fragile to start with. Our Arab allies probably would not have continued to fight with us if we had done more than just expel the Iraqis out of Kuwait.

The US led coalition started to arrive in Saudi Arabia in August 1990. The aerial bombardment of Iraq and Kuwait began on Janruary 17th 1991 and the ground war began in February 1991 and lasted for 100 hours. Our objective was to liberate Kuwait and that is exactly what we did. Our Desert Storm military ring customers had to sit in the desert in tents for months before the war was over. Summertime temperatures would frequently get up into the 130′s and there is no shade in the desert. The dust and extreme temperatures wreaked havoc on our equipment which caused a lot of uneccessary confusion.

The Gulf War Oil Spill

November 19, 2009 posted by StylinSoldier

oil spillThis oil spill was the worst in history. It happened during Operation Desert Storm and every Operation Desert Storm ring customer is aware of the details.

This spill was caused by the Iraqi Army when they opened some valves at  several oil refineries, and dumped the content of several oil tankers. It was estimated that anywhere from 42 to 462 million gallons of oil were dumped into the Persian Gulf. Now get this. The spill was 101 miles long, 42 miles wide, and 5 inches deep. Thats a whole bunch of oil. When it happened I thought that Saddam hussein did it out of spite but it is believed that he ordered it to foil a perceived amphibious assault by US Marines.

1 million barrels of oil were recovered from the spill, 2 to 3 million barrels washed ashore, and an estimated 6 to 10 million barrels evaporated. Thats a whole bunch of wasted money. Fortunately the spill was gotten under control before it could do a whole lot of environmental damage. http://www.militaryringexpress.com

What is the Commando?

November 17, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

commandosWhen I use the word “Commando” I apply it to all of my military ring customers who are special operations soldiers and even to infantry units or other small units set up for limited specific missions.

The military use of the word generally refers to light infantry troops used to attack conventional targets, used in raids or ambushes, counterterrorism. reconnaissance, and other operations.

The first people who come to mind are US Army Rangers. In my mind they are commandos in the purest form of the word. They are asociated with small unit offensive operations and patrols. Although some commandos like US Special Forces are used quite differently they still fill the bill of the commando clasification. All of our commandoes deserve our undying respect. We should keep in mind that they face a greater chance of being killed in action than the regular soldier. They are not in it for prestige, but for service.

The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment

160th SOAR Distinctive Unit Insignia.png

The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment was formed to provide helicopter suppert for general purpose and special operations units. The need for such a unit was recognized after the failure of operation Eagle Claw in 1980.

This unit consists of the best aviation soldiers in the US Army. Those of you who are aviation ring customers of mine know just how hard the training is to be a part of this unit. Officers and enlisted members alike have to go through a very rigoruos training period to be active in this regiment.

You can see the name “Night Stalkers” on the unit crest because they conduct most of their operations at night. This unit has pioneered many new tactics for aviation operations.

Check this out. The helicopters that this unit uses are AH-6 Little birds, MH-42 Chinooks, and MH-60 Blackhawks. Now you will ask me what is there to check out? And I will tell you that I didn’t include it there because I wanted to save it for impact. The word MODIFIED was used to describe the helicopters. Thats a mouthfull. It says everything without saying a lot.

The M712 Copperhead Round

October 21, 2009 posted by OldWarrior

copperheadThe Official designation of this artillery projectile is a 155MM cannon launched, fin stabilized, terminally laser guided explosive projectile used against hard targets. The article that I read listed the maximum range of this projectile as 16,000 meters. I’m not so sure about the range as it is listed. This projectile was new when I left military service but I seem to remember a maximum range which was much more.

The copperhead operates by detecting a laser signal and guiding itself to it. Once it acquires the signal the fins will adjust themselves to aerodynamically guide the copperhead to its intended target. There are other variables which must be accounted for to make the copperhead function correctly. The observer must operate the laser from within certain parameters to give the copperhead enough time to change its direction. The artillery crew that fires the round must also meet certain operational guidelines in that they must fire it from an area which will also give the round enough time to change direction.

The copperhead was first used in combat during Operation Desert Storm. We first trained with it in the desert and used it successfully during the war. The copperhead would be a small part of the story of the Field Artilleryman’s Desert Storm ring.
