The Air Force has A New Air Drop Technique

March 13, 2010 posted by OldWarrior

Our Operation Enduring Freedom ring customers have thebenefit of the latest airdrop capability of the Air Force. The new technique is called the low cost low altitude air drop (LGL).

When the Air Force uses this technique it delivers smaller amounts of suppliesC-130 Crew has New Method for Airdrops to smaller units which provides more flexible options to local commanders. Supplies are placed into bundles which weigh between 80 and 500 pounds.

The Air Force ring customers who employ this tactic use disposable parachutes which drastically cuts down on costs.

This is another tactic developed specifically for the operation being conducted in  Afghanistan.

I have talked so many times on how different wars cause different military tactics to be developed and this new technique is just one of the benefits of the war in Afghanistan that our custom military ring customers are engaged in right now.

talibanThere can be two opinions about this one but the Afghan government is negotiating peace with one of the largest Taliban war lords, Golbuddin Hekmatyar who fought as a mujahedeen during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan and who now controls the smallest terror faction in the Taliban is proffering cease fire terms.

He does not speak for the entire organization but the fact that he is willing to talk to the government seems to show that Taliban resolve may be on the wane. He is offering terms that are not as harsh as those other terms offered by the Taliban but there is another side to the story.

He is in a very weak position and his willingness to talk may be a last ditch attempt to salvage something for himself before the war ends. He obviously can only speak for himself and not the entire organization.

On the other side of the coin military ring customers, if he ceases to fight and submits to the government the effects of his actions won’t help the Taliban in any way.

I see some brilliance in the governments decision to entertain talks with him because it sends a signal that there is a way out of the war. It also puts the Taliban in the hot seat and puts the ball in their court. It will be interesting to see the consequences of these actions for my operation enduring freedom ring customers.

marjah2.11lg.jpgNATO forces are still massing around the town of Marjah in Afghanistan for the upcoming offensive against it. The town is effectively cut off by NATO forces which will keep the Taliban from receiving supplies during the seige.

Skirmishes have begun between US forces and the Taliban which is normal during this stage of the operation. Skirmishes will occur when opposing forces are in close proximity to each other so this is perfectly normal. Each side is checking out the other and they will test each other with small battles.

There are estimated to be between 400 to 1000 Taliban fighters in the town of Marjah. Our military ring customers who are facing the enemy will use overwhelming force to take the town. Part of the wait time is designed to give the Taliban a chance to escape before the actual attack. The object of the attack is not necassarily to kill people but to recapture the town.

headquartersEliza Manningham-Buller who is the retired head of MI5 (British Intelligence) says that the United States was not forthcoming with the truth about how it treated some of the terror detainees which we captured from time to time.

The issue revolves mainly around al-Qaeda mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammad and the fact that he was waterboarded 160 times to get information.

Now this is a two sided issue with me. On the one hand the information that we got out of Mr Mohammed undoubtedly saved many American and British lives. The life of one American is far more valuable than the comfort of a terrorist in my opinion. It would not have bothered me if he had been waterboarded 1,000 times. The main thing that our government must do is to protect innocents from terror attack.

The problem is how do you know before hand that the person that you plan on torturing is a terrorist and not an innocent civilian instead of a criminal. Thats the real kicker.

I think that part of the revelation of this mistreatment by Buller is to keep some of the heat directed elsewhere and not at home. I can’t believe that this knowledge was very much of a surprise to MI5 because it wasn’t much of a surprise to me. http://www.militaryringexpress.com/products

guantanimo bayThis post will raise some interesting questions for you because the information that I read when I did the research was very interesting indeed. It involves the case of Binyam Mohamed who is an ex Guantanimo Bay detainee.

Mr Mohamed had alleged that he was tortured while he was in captivity, beaten, psychologically abused, and even had his genitals cut with a scapel.

Well it turns out that according to classified documents released by the British government there is some truth to the matter. The documents show that Mr Mohamed was indeed subjected to torture and cruel treatment while in captivity but I do not know to what extent or by which government.

It seems that the US and British governments knew what was happening whether they were the ones administering the punishment or not I don’t know. The thing that is a kicker to me is the fact that he was released without charges. Obviously he was innocent. To be honest the thought of a terrorist being thumped on doesn’t bother me but an innocent man should not be subjected to this type of treatment.

Now my custom military ring customers the question that I put to you is this. How do you know who is the enemy? I don’t have any sympathy for people who maim and torture innocents but I take exception to torturing people on just a whim of suspicion.

I do not condone torture my military ring customers but how do you stop terrorists plans to kill innocents if you are not able to do whatever you have to do to get information from them? This is very shaky ground that we are walking on here. Nothing gives any government the right to abuse the lives of innocent people.

night fightingThe latest operational security concession that NATO has made in the war in Afghanistan is to place severe limits on their night raiding activities. The reason that this is such a concern is that our military ring customers serving in that conflict have a greater advantage when they conduct night operations. The night vision technology that we use gives us this advantage. The picture that you see here is exactly how things appear on the darkest night when you are looking through a night vision device.

Terrorists know now that they can operate more freely at night because of the fact that we can’t take advantage of the superior technology that we posses.

The purpose of this concession is to not offend the Afghan population by our night raiding tactics. Many times the homes of innocents are invaded which really isn’t fair to them. Night raids will be used as sparingly as possible now and when they are used Afghan troops will take the lead in the searches. Our military ring customers in Afghanistan will benefit more from the information that they can get from cooperating nationals than information that they will withhold if they are angry with us.

The Changing Face of War

March 5, 2010 posted by OldWarrior

troopWe have written many posts about the nature of warfare and the changing evolution of military tactics and equipment. Lets look at the way our tactics have come full circle for our Operation Enduring Freedom ring customers presently serving in Afghanistan.

The biggest threat to NATO troops in Afghanistan has been the roadside bomb. What did we do when roadside bombs came into fruition? We added armor to every vehicle that we had. Soldiers improvised until we developed the new heavier Humvee. So what did the enemy do? They made their bombs bigger and more powerful to defeat the heavier armored vehicles.

So now in order to defeat the bigger, more powerful, more sophisticated, roadside bombs some of our infantry military ring customers have come up with a simple solution; Just walk. Thats right, the best solution for defeating roadside bombs is to walk. It might take a little longer but I would rather be late than dead.

Walking defeats the use of a heavier IED that we see being used at this time. When our troops walk they are not restricted to using the road. They can walk across country etc. out of harms way. So we ave gone back to the basics. I wonder what my military ring customers will have to look for as the next terrorist countermove?

This is a War of a Different Color

March 4, 2010 posted by admin

paetraeusThe US and NATO are fighting a war of a totally different color in Afghanistan. This war is totally different than anything that we have ever faced before. Our custom military ring customers who are fighting this war have had to adapt their tactics and equipment in ways that they never have before.

This war has caused countless modifications to existing military equipment and countless types of new equipment to be developed.

I also see a change in Air Force tactics and there may be an organizational realignment because of this war. You may ask me why I say this and I will tell you that the reason is because of the emergence of the use of drones and the specialized training of the personnel needed to operate them. The drone has proven itself in this war along with the Osprey which our marine corps ring customers use.

Special Operation forces have made a dramatic contribution to this war and as a result may be used differently in the future. My Navy SEAL ring customers and Army Special Forces ring customers have made a dramatic contribution and have received many awards in this war. This war has marked the beginning of a new era for our military ring customers.

karzai2.8th.jpgThe Afghan president is looking at ways of nearly doubling the size of his army and police force. The reason is that he wants his country to not have to rely on international troops to maintain its own security. Its a very good thing that the Afghan people want their autonomy. It is good to all of our military ring customers serving there because the sooner the Afgan government gets on their feet the sooner they can come home.

It sounds to me  that president Karzai is under pressure from Afghans to get international troops removed from the country. It is not good for foreign troops to be in any country so I can understand where the Afghan president is coming from on this one. I know that our custom military ring customers who are currently serving in afghanistan would love to come home.

My question though is that when he builds this large force will the quality of his troops suffer? Many of his troops are double agents as it is so I wonder is he increases the size of his army will he get more troops who are reliable? There are too many factors involved for me to try to make an educated guess so I’ll just leave the question on the table. Some of you operation enduring freedom ring customers who are close to whats happening there should tell us what you think.

ied'sAttaullah Wahab who was a deputy provincial police chief in Kapisa province was arrested by NATO forces and is accused of assisting the Taliban by storing, distributing, and installing IED’s in Afghanistan. There is also a list of other criminal activities which he is accused of.

This underscores the problems that NATO has had with the Afghan police force. We have blogged before on incidents where Afghan policemen have turned and attacked NATO troops while on patrol together.

This is definitely one of the weak links in the chain of conquering al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. You custom military ring customers who have been following this blog may remember the posts that we have made before about this situation.

The United States has taken several steps in an iniatiave to help the Afghan government clean up its act. We have screened many of the existing members of the Afghan police force to insure that they are drug free and have no criminal connections. Afghan police were also given a raise in salary and pay incentives to make their pay closer to that of the Taliban fighters. Our operation enduring freedom ring customers who work in close coordination with the Afghan police have to exercise caution in their daily operations.
