Karzai is Frustrated With the Pakistanis
President Karzai has expressed his frustration with the way that things are going in Afgahnistan with his remarks that the US should focus on the Taliban in Pakistan rather than in Afghanistan.
His remarks parallel the way that I feel to a degree. I believe that the reason for the Taliban’s successes is that they are able to operate and recuperate unmolested in Pakistan and easily slip back and forth across the border to do their dirty work. We have not been able to mount an effective campaign against them in that country because the Pakistanis will not allow us to pursue them into their country.
It is really not in the best intrest of the Pakistanis to do much against the Taliban because of many reasons but the two biggest are the facts that they share a long relationship with the Taliban, and they will have to live with them long after we are gone.
Our military ring customers are doing a magnificent job of wiping out the Taliban when they engage them, but there are always many more waiting just across the border waiting for their chance to get into the fight.
Petraeus syas that we won’t be Successful in this War Without Dialogue
Our top man in Afghanistan has conceded that we will need to come to some sort of peace agreement with the Taliban before we can end the war. He is not saying anything here that he has not said in the past but the best time to make this announcement is now.
Part of the strategy of the troop surge was to let our custom military ring customers put a fair amount of heat on the backsides of the insurgents to make them realize that they don’t want to fight forever. Once this was accomplished the next step was to open the door for negotiations to end the war. I believe that negotiations have been ongoing for a while between President Karzai and some factions of the Taliban.
According to Petraeus there are some factions of the Taliban who are ready to lay down their arms and pledge alleigance to the new government. it is good that we are fracturing the Taliban from within as well as bombing them.
We have probably gotten farther along in this endeaver than the world realizes. We can allow the Taliban to save face by negotiating with them for victory but they need to have no doubt in their minds that we have the power and the resolve to beat them.
A Drone Attack in Pakistan Kills Twelve People
Twelve people were killed in a drone attack in Pakistan when our military ring customers used them to attack a known Taliban stronghold in Northern Waziristan Province. The locals and the insurgents are screaming long and hard about the drone attacks which are being conducted in their country and to be honest about it they have good reason.
I have written on this subject many times and those of you who follow this blog know exactly how I feel. If we could get a little more help from the Pakistanis there would be a lot fewer civilians killed by drones because they could take out these targets for us. The fact that the insurgents like to use human beings as shields doesn’t help at all either.
The CIA launched the attack and it is not pubicly known if any of the casualties were civilians.
One interesting thing that I found out while doing the research for this post is that the CIA uses private contractors to help them with these raids. Now my question to you o venerable grasshopper is this? What in the world does a private contractor for the CIA do? Where do these contractors come from? How do they look? If you see one let me know and I will do the same for you.
NATO Continues to Attempt to Flush out Haqqanis
I believe in the back of my military mind that we are at a critical point in the war in Afghanistan. As a matter of fact we are at the most critical place possible. I am a tactician of sorts and I believe that I am right. There has been heavy fighting in the Kandahar Province as we continue to fight the insurgents in that part of Afghanistan. They don’t want to give up that part of the country to our control and we are obligated to the Afghan people to take it and get it under Afghan control. The outcome of this battle is crucial.
The latest news from the region is that Afghan forces have conducted a raid which resulted in the deaths of at least twenty of the Haqqani Taliban members. The Afghans conducted the assault in an area in which the Taliban forces were well entrenched in fortified positions. Both sides are deadly serious and the consequences are deadly also.
The good thing about this raid is that it was conducted by the Afghan Army with US forces backing them up. This indicates to me that the Afghan forces are improving in their ability to take control of their country and hopefully to remain in control once our military ring customers leave. Our military ring customers in all branches of service are no doubt the best trained in the world and if anyone can help the Afghans to become proficient enough to secure their country our troops can.
The Army Introduces a New Special Forces Battalion
The 10th Special Forces group has added another battalion on Fort Carson Colorado. This is one of a number of additional units that the army has added to posts across the nation.
The army isn’t telling us much about these Spec Ops troops as is their nature but I know that I blogged a while back that the military would have to increase it’s number of these type troops because of the nature of operations in the ongoing war on terror.
I see a future trend for the army to maintain higher numbers of Special Forces ring customers for future operations because it seems to me that the majority of future military operations will be conducted in assymetrical type operational areas. The special skills of these operators will be needed more than ever on the modern battlefield.
Due to the fact that al-Qaida is spreading all over the world it will be impossible to stop them with a conventional force. Conventional troops are good against other armies. They can be used to fight terrorists in small skirmishes but that really is not what they are designed to do.
I will also predict that future spec ops troops will have to be used for mission types that most people have never heard of. I believe that the days of large force on force battles between major armies are almost gone.
Heavy Fighting is Predicted Around Kandahar
The bad news in this case is good news to me. What the press is publicizing as bad couldn’t be better but you have to have a military mind to understand it. So grasshopper sit back and listen and allow the military ring man drop some knowledge on you.
The news is that heavy fighting is taking place in the vicinity of Kandahar Province in Afghanistan. When the plan for the summer offensive was made it made the assumption that the Taliban would choose to not engage our forces directly but the exact opposite has happened. Kandahar is the birth place for the Taliban so who ever owns it will get a major propaganda victory. We did not know that keeping this area would be so important to the Taliban. They are throwing everything but the kitchen sink into the battle so it will take us a while longer to take control of the area.
All of our custom military ring customers are aware that plans are made to be changed and that very few things go according to plan during combat. In order to win you must be flexible, innovative, and able to adapt and change quickly. You also need to recognize opportunities when they arise and take advantage of them. This is a grand opportunity to eliminate a large number of the enemy without having to chase them all over the country. It actually makes our job infinitely easier.
It just isn’t possible for them to win in this kind of combat. Yes it will take more time to gain control of Kandahar, but once we do we will take control of the other areas very quickly. The prediction of the military ring man is this; Once we take Kandahar the Taliban will quickly lose control of the other areas that they control. Kandahar will be the first domino in the chain to fall. Once we take Kandahar we will have taken out most of their assets. If you are an opportunist you will see that they are playing right into our hands.
Well boys and girls you are going to get my opinion today whether you like it or not. You are free to make whatever comments that you want to this post because you are entitled to your own opinion, but here is mine.
This gentleman has refused to serve in Afghanistan because he says that he doesn’t have to take orders from President Obama because he wasn’t born in the United States. Now I for one thought that this issue had been put to rest because the State of Hawaii says that there is a record of Mr Obama’s birth. If the State of Hawaii says that all is well then that’s good enough for me. Mr Lakin wants to see the birth certificate himself. I don’t think that he would serve even if he did see it. He would find another reason not to serve. Now if you ask me the issue is not a birth certificate but maybe it is something about President Obama. Whatever the reason is it seems that many people don’t want to serve for this President. Never have I seen so many military officers who didn’t want to follow the orders of their Commander in Chief yet you expect enlisted personnel to obey your orders without question.
As far as I’m concerned LTC Lakin volunteered to serve his country just like all of the rest of our custom military ring customers who are doing their time in Afghanistan. If it would make him feel better let me reiterate that this war was started by President Bush so it dosen’t matter who is in office you would still have to serve. The President of this country along with everyone else is not obligated to show you his birth certificate, but you are obligated to serve. I hope that you go to jail.
You don’t even have to see actual combat when you go over there. On top of that as a doctor you will live in comfortable quarters, eat good food, and be able to take a shower each night unlike your brothers who will have to serve on the front lines. You will also get the best pickins of all of the stuff sent over from the States before the front line troops even get to see it so what’s the problem?
You took an oath to serve like everyone else who happens to be there. I’m sure that every other troop can think of other places to be right now also but they are living up to the words that they have spoken regarding serving their country. It’s your turn in the box Doc so just take your medicine and do your job.
NATO has reached the desired number of military troops and policemen in Afghanistan which it feels is necessary to be able to maintain the gains that have been fought for up until now. Now I am talking about Afghan troops and policemen here.
Initially there were many problems with the quality and quantity of recruits that they were getting. One problem was the pay which was less than what the Taliban was offering. Another problem was drug use among recruits. Some of the steps taken to correct these problems were drug testing, revamping the training plan, and getting the recruits to take an oath of alleigance. These things led to visible improvement in the quality of the finished product however, corruption is the biggest issue remaining.
Police and soldiers don’t have a good reputation with the civilian population of the country right now which is the single biggest problem in the war. The US has been riding President Karzai pretty hard about the corruption but it will be very difficult to stop.
The goal
Some Afghan Civilians were Kiled in a Nighttime Raid
I like to think of myself as a man of the truth so I have to call it like I see it and this is an unfortunate incident. There were a large number of Afghan civilians reportedly killed in a nighttime raid in Nangarhar Province in Afghanistan. Now I want to ask the question; Why were so many civilians located in a known Taliban compound? The Taliban routinely uses innocent civilians whom it forces to act as human shields. Now I am not saying that this is in fact what happened because I wasn’t there. I want to believe that this is the case.
US and Afghan forces had targeted a Taliban compound in the action and killed about twenty insurgents, two of which were known Taliban commanders. Civilians should not have been there.
The assault force came under fire as they withdrew which also indicates that the raid took place in a Taliban stronghold. There have also been civilian deaths in areas where NATO and US forces say that they have not conducted operations so something is fishy here.
Now there probably are more precautions that our military ring customers need to take, but when I post about these types of incidents I speak from experience. I know the precautions that our military ring customers have to take in order to not harm innocents because I once trained to perform wartime missions.
The President of Pakistan Says that we are Losing the War
Asif Ali Zardari who is the president of Pakistan went on record to say that we are losing the war there. Now if you were to ask me (and I know you didn’t) I think that he is doing a whole lot of double talk. I read his statements and it sounds to me that he is attempting to find a way to get some aid money put into someones hands.
First of all he cites the reason that we are losing is becaue we are losing the battle for the hearts and minds of the Afghan civilian population. My question on that point is this; If we are losing that battle by doing all that we can to save them how is the Taliban and al-Qaida winning when they use them as human shields. Now there is some truth is this because the Afghan army can be corrupt in its dealings with civilians but not our troops (as a practice). I have always judged winning and losing by the number of casualties that you inflict on your enemy.
He goes on to say that Pakistan and its people are the victims of terrorists and that the Afghan people know the brutality of the Taliban. Well so much for the hearts and mind theory. Also did you notice how the Pakistani people were inserted into the equation? I wonder what it would take to make them feel better? Do you get my drift? For a country whose people are such victims the Pakistanis are slow to deal with the terrorists inside of their border. When they run back into Pakistan our military ring customers over there can’t even follow because the Pakistani government won’t allow it. Now if my people were being victimized by someone I would accept all of the help that I could get. I would be more than happy to allow the US Army to clean up my problem. Military ring customers do you get my drift?
